Maria is a black, mixed transracial adoptee, mother, wife, daughter, and friend. She works as a somatic attachment practitioner. With firsthand experience of the complexities of adoption, Identity and the challenges of self-discovery, Maria is passionate about helping others heal and grow. Marias' work is informed and inspired by mindfulness, Energy medicine and somatic exploration. Having identified her own adoption as a traumatic experience, coming out of the fog she spent years trying to find the right healing modalities. Challenges from finding a therapist that was able to recognize that being separated from our mothers, whether at birth or later, leaves deep buried wounds. To finally finding a therapist that wasn’t just trauma-informed but also a specialist in transracial adoption and an adoptee herself. Maria is currently in the process of creating her own program based on somatic attachment experience and equine-assisted somatic wellness.
Maria's training as an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL) and in Somatic Attachment Therapy has equipped her with the tools to offer a unique and powerful healing approach that combines equine-facilitated psychoeducation and somatic attachment therapy techniques to promote emotional regulation and release.
Her approach focuses on transgenerational trauma and attachment. She has trained with Dr. Peter Levine, Dr. Scott Lyons, Dr. Fanny Brewster, Dr. Dan Siegel, Ann Weiser Cornell Dr. Gabor Maté and many others.
